Sunnyside doctor apprehended on unpaid child support charges

Patients of Dr. John H. Dumbolton had problems seeing the physician today (Tuesday).

The 56-year-old doctor was locked up in the Sunnyside jail after he was picked up Monday evening on a warrant issued by the Clay County Sheriff's Office in Missouri. The warrant for his arrest stems from the child and family services department in Clay County. He is wanted on charges of unpaid child support.

Dumbolton took over Dr. Lloyd Butler's practice, located on East Lincoln Avenue, earlier this year. The clinic is now called Lincoln Avenue Family Medicine.

The Sunnyside Police Department received a phone call from the Clay County Sheriff's Office in Liberty, Mo. regarding Dumbolton's warrant Monday morning, but waited until 6 p.m. to exercise the warrant.

Dumbolton was taken into custody at his Columbia Avenue home.

Sunnyside Community Hospital administrator Jon Smiley said that physicians are covering in Dumbolton's absence.

"Things are being handled as usual here at the office," said Susan Babcock, office manager for Lincoln Avenue Family Medicine.

As of press time Dumbolton was still in the Sunnyside jail.

Dumbolton will be taken to the Yakima County jail later today, where he will await extradition.
