RACHEL IRELAND

Rachel Ireland, 67, of Paterson died Tuesday, July 13, 2004, at her daughter’s home in Kennewick.

She was born Feb. 26, 1937 in Kent County, Mich., the daughter of Reka (Stevens) and Jake Betten. On Dec. 4, 1982 she married David Ireland Jr. in Richland.

They owned and operated an apple orchard on Alderdale Rd. from 1983 to 1998. She was an office manager and bookkeeper for Mercer Ranches.

She is survived by two sons, Scott Rivard of Mt. Orab, Ohio and Bradley Rivard and wife, Lorraine, of Kennewick; one daughter, Kim Nygaard and husband, Kenneth, of Kennewick; one-step son; one step-daughter; eight grandchildren; one sister, Elajean Richardson of Michigan; and one brother, James Devos of

Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, David, in 2002; and two brothers, Guy Betten and Ken Mulder.

Viewing and visitation will be held Friday, July 16, 2004, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 17, 2004, at noon at Paterson Community Church in Paterson, with burial to follow at Paterson Community Cemetery. Those wishing to honor Mrs. Ireland’s memory may contribute to the Paterson Community Church.

FERDINAND FRED VOLLMER

Ferdinand Fred Vollmer, 70, of Grandview went to be in the arms of his Savior Wednesday, July 14, 2004, from his home in Grandview.

Fred was born March 12, 1934 in Nisland, S.D., the son of Eva (Mitzel) and Carl Vollmer. Fred was one of three sets of twins among 13 children. Fred served in the U.S. Army. On July 3, 1959 he married Louise Lindstrom in Bellingham. Fred worked for Yakima Rendering Plant and was retired from Roza Irrigation.

Fred enjoyed working on his little farm.

Fred is survived by his wife, Louise Vollmer of Grandview; three brothers, Albert Vollmer of Grand Coulee, Carl Vollmer of Mabton and Ruben Vollmer of Salem, Ore.; and two sisters, Clara Kirk of Wenatchee and Martha Neugebauer of Spokane.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and several brothers and sisters.

Viewing will be held Thursday, July 15, 2004, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 16, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. Burial will be at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside. A special thanks goes to Steve and Evon Morris and Lower Valley Hospice for all their special care.
