Parenting workshop offers insights into children's behaviors

"Growing up Again," a special workshop about parenting and child development, will be offered Tuesday, July 20, at Sunnyside's Pioneer Elementary School.

The two-hour workshop, which begins at 6 p.m., will offer material covering family structure and nurturing, as well as the ages and the stages of child development, based on the work of author Jean Illsley Clarke and Connie Dawson.

Fran Love, a parent educator and a Montessori teacher, will be workshop leader, said Yesenia Rodriguez, a parent educator with the Sunnyside School District.

Rodriguez said the course is based on the book Growing up Again, Parenting Ourselves, Parenting our Children. She said the course will provide information that shows the effects on children of parental behavior and will present usable guidelines for implementing discipline and structure, setting limits and showing love. In addition, the program offers parents an opportunity to evaluate and strengthen current parenting techniques.

Space is limited, according to Rodriguez. Those interested in attending the workshop may contact Rodriguez at 836-2208 or
