Hess qualifies for National Junior Olympic track and field championship

Bickleton High School track and field standout Annie Hess had earned a spot at the National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships.

Annie Hess has pretty much excelled in anything she has attempted. The Bickleton High School senior to be can add one more item to her already impressive resume.

Hess earned a berth to the National Junior Olympic track and field championships in Eugene, Ore., which will run Tuesday, July 27, through Sunday, Aug. 1.

Hess qualified for the national junior track meet after competing this past weekend at the Region 13 track and field championships in Seattle.

Region 13 is comprised of athletes from Alaska, Washington and Northern Idaho.

Hess took runner-up honors in both the shotput and discus.

Hess had a second place mark in the shotput of 36-3. In the discus, Hess took runner-up honors with a throw of 135-1.

Prior to the Region 13 track and field championships, Hess took part in the Inland Northwest Association Track and Field Championships in Cheney the weekend of June 19. At the Cheney meet, Hess won the discus with a throw of 132-10. She took runner-up honors in the shotput with a toss of 35-11.
