Sunnyside man, found dead in canal, believed murdered

A Sunnyside man was found dead in the Roza Canal Thursday morning near SLI and Bethany roads.

Ignacio Cervantes Cisneros, 54, was found in the canal by a Roza employee just before 11 a.m., according to Yakima County Sheriff's Department Lt. Stew Graham. He is believed to have been murdered.

Graham said that Cisneros was last seen at his Sunnyside home in the 600 block of S. 10th Street last Saturday afternoon.

It is believed that Cisneros was in the water since the weekend.

The initial report indicates that Cisneros was apparently shot in the chest, but Graham said that the cause of death has not yet been determined.

An autopsy will be conducted today (Friday).

The victim owned a black 1988 Isuzu pick-up truck with the license plate number A77940B. The vehicle is still unaccounted for, according to Graham.

A vehicle was also found in the canal yesterday, Graham confirmed, but he doesn't believe the vehicle has anything to do with the homicide. The vehicle was stolen from a Sunnyside resident.

Anyone with information on the homicide or the missing Isuzu pickup truck is asked to contact the Yakima County Sheriff's Department, (800) 572-0490.
