Guadalupe Munoz of Sunnyside has the city's go-ahead to construct a carport adjacent to his home in the 300 block of North Avenue. The approval was given without comment Thursday morning.
Munoz's request was to have been heard in an administrative hearing held at Sunnyside City Hall, said Pam Sandifer, a spokesperson for the city's planning department.
"But since no one showed up to contest his request, Munoz's request automatically is approved," Sandifer explained.
Munoz's home is located in a B-2 (business) zone on North Avenue, which required he obtain a conditional use permit from the city before he could make the change to his property, she explained.
Letters were sent to the businesses owners situated adjacent to the Munoz's property asking for comments, she said.
In most cases conditional use permit requests must go before the Sunnyside Board of Adjustment, she said. "But in this case, the matter was handled by a city administrative hearing board."
Sitting on the administrative panel are Assistant City Manager /City Attorney Mark Kunkler, Building inspector Mike Storm and Fire Marshall Aaron Markham.
