Grandview girls' split double header against Ki-Be

BENTON CITY - After only two practices and with only eight players, the Grandview High School girls' fastpitch softball team gave Ki-Be a run for their money, during a double header that took place Monday evening in Benton City.

The double-header, which was part of the Yakima River League summer series, ended with a both teams splitting the twin bill.

The Lady 'Hounds started the first game of the afternoon on the right foot, scoring six runs in the first inning and leaving Ki-Be scoreless with three consecutive outs.

After the first inning of the four-inning game things turned sour for the Lady 'Hounds. Grandview Coach Doug Hansen said his team ended up with a lot of walks and ultimately time just got away from them.

In the end, Grandview lost the first game 11-7.

The second game of the afternoon, showed Grandview getting off to a slow start against Ki-Be, staying scoreless until the third inning.

But from then on, it was Grandview's game. The Lady 'Hounds found their rhythm and finished the match-up scoring seven runs in the fifth inning, and winning 9-8.

"We had some really key hits," Hansen said.

He said it was Mari Hinojosa who helped push the team ahead of Ki-Be, with a double in the fifth inning. Hansen said Sarah Trevino also had a key hit for the Lady 'Hounds, hitting a double during the game.

Hansen said it was nice to start the summer season with a win. The Lady 'Hounds will play again tonight (Wednesday) against Prosser.
