Explorers recognized for work on spring clean-up day

The Sunnyside City Council took time out of its meeting this past Monday night to recognize a group of police explorers for their work with the annual spring clean-up day.

Sunnyside Police Chief Ed Radder provided some background on how the explorers became involved with helping manage the spring clean-up day. He said the annual event is meant for residents of Sunnyside, but after Yakima County ended the free dump day at its facility, county residents would try to bring their refuse to the local event for disposal. Radder said his department was able to utilize the explorers to ensure that only local citizens were taking advantage of the free dump day.

The explorers who were honored at Monday night's meeting include Ruby Jimenez, Iris Ruiz, Marissa Ruiz, Blanca Baldovinos, Daniel Cazares, Patrick Yanez and Angela Marin.

"The explorers did an excellent job (of managing this year's free dump day)," said Radder.
