Two Sunnyside men were rushed to Sunnyside Community Hospital and later transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following a shooting incident Thursday evening.
Jose Espindola, 29, and Jose M. Solano, 47, both suffered multiple gun shot wounds, according to Capt. Phil Schenck of the Sunnyside Police Department.
According to Schenck, both men were intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
Schenck said Espindola was at a residence in the 700 block of Cemetery Rd. belonging to Espindola's family, when Solano arrived. The two began to argue and both pulled out guns and fired on each other at close range, said Schenck.
"They were within three or four steps of each other when they shot each other," said Schenck.
He added that there were a number of witnesses, many of whom said who shot first, but Schenck said he would not release that information at this time.
Espindola was shot multiple times in the torso, mainly the chest and stomach area, and Solano was also shot a number of times, said Schenck.
"We've got to nail down the motive, " said Schenck.
Currently, no charges have been filed, but Schenck said the way it stands there is an assault in both directions.
"We'll be exploring charges with the prosecutor," he added.
According to Harborview Medical Center officials, both men are listed as in serious condition.
