Horse tosses teen, injuries are serious

A 19-year-old woman is in serious condition at Harborview Medical Center, after she was bucked off a horse in the middle of West Edison Avenue in Sunnyside Saturday, June 19, at about 8:30 p.m.

According to Sunnyside Police Department Captain Phil Schenck, Jessica Rivera-Rodriguez was asked by the horse's owner if she wanted to go for a ride.

The girl, who was living with a family in the 200 block of West Edison Avenue, mounted the horse behind the owner and the horse began to rear, bucking her off.

Rivera-Rodriguez hit the asphalt when she fell, according to witnesses.

Rivera-Rodriguez was taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital and then transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
