Piranhas chew away at Sharks, win 462-376

PROSSER - The Prosser Piranhas dealt the Sunnyside summer swim team its second loss of the season last night, 462-376.

The Piranhas dominated the girls 12&U and 16&U events, as well as the boys 14&U and 16&U races. All told in those four age divisions, Prosser outscored the Sharks by a 259-30 margin.

The defeat dropped Sunnyside's Mid-Valley Summer Swim League record to 3-2 on the season. The Sharks, the defending league champs, have a bye this coming Thursday before jumping back into league action next Tuesday, July 6, at home against Toppenish.

Sunnyside kept last night's meet relatively close thanks to its boys 10&U and 12&U swimmers and its girls 8&U competitors.

At boys 10&U, where the Sharks outscored Prosser 68-7, Cristian Vargas posted four individual victories for the Sharks, and swam on both winning relay teams. He also nailed down a runner-up finish in the one other race he competed. Teammate Giovanni Rodriguez scored well also, grabbing one individual victory, two second place finishes, a third place showing and he was on both relay squads that were victorious. Also piling up considerable points for Sunnyside in that age division were Darick Anderson and Tony Garza. Both notched two relay victories, and combined for two second place finishes, two third place finishes and a fourth place showing.

Jacob Hollander rose to the top in the boys 12&U events last night, which saw the Sharks outscoring the Piranhas by a 51-24 margin. The Sunnyside swimmer won three of the five individual races and swam on one of the Sharks' two winning relay squads in that age division. Hollander also notched a third place finish. Aaron Henry picked up one boys 12&U individual race victory for Sunnyside. Henry also was on both winning relay squads, and tallied a lone second place finish and two thirds in the individual events.

In the girls 8&U races, Sunnyside's Brittany Broersma won three of the four individual competitions. She placed third in the other race. Teammate Sydnee Hernandez amassed numerous points for the Sharks, as well, claiming three runner-up finishes and placing third in her other race. Lyndsee Anderson also scored a second, third and fourth place finish for the Sharks. Sunnyside's 8&U girls outscored their Prosser counterparts by a 42-10 margin.

Prosser dominated the relay events on the girls' side last night, winning seven of the eight races. In the boys relay events, each of the clubs grabbed four wins.
