Council cancels March 8 meeting

With no pressing items set to come before them, Sunnyside City Council members opted this past Monday night to cancel the regularly scheduled meeting on March 8.

The Council is set to meet again Monday, March 15.

Prior to the Council deciding not to meet on March 8, Sunnyside Interim City Manager Mark Kunkler went over some items scheduled to come before the body.

One of the agenda items was to formalize an agreement with Yakima County for work on the South First Street improvement project. Another agenda item was approving a motion calling for bids from publications to serve as the city's legal newspaper.

Council was also to look at an issue surrounding solicitor licenses.

Kunkler also informed Council a more indepth report on city cell phone usage might be available for discussion.

It wasn't clear if these items would roll over for discussion at the March 15 meeting.

Resident asks for Council to look at problem on 12th Street

Local resident Larry Hill asked the Sunnyside City Council this past Monday night to look at a drainage problem in the 600 block of South 12th Street.

Hill said there is an area there that doesn't drain well during rain and snow storms, causing flooding in the area.

Hill also wants city officials to look at the lighting along the street in the 12th Street area.

The Council directed city staff to look further into Hill's requests.

Council takes no action following executive session

The Sunnyside City Council took no action this past Monday night following an executive session to discuss personnel matters.
