Two car pile-up sends three to hospital

A two-car collision at the intersection of Stover and Waneta roads, south of Sunnyside, sent three Lower Valley residents to the emergency room early Tuesday afternoon.

The 1:15 p.m. accident occurred when a 2002 Dodge Durango, driven by Rogelio Borrego, 22 of Sunnyside, westbound on Stover Road, failed to yield to a southbound 1997 Ford pick-up on Waneta Road, according to a Yakima County Sheriff's report.

The impact caused the pick-up, driven by Griselda Chavez, 38, of Sunnyside, to roll, injuring her and a 4-year-old male passenger in her vehicle.

All parties were wearing seatbelts, although the youngster was not secured in a child restraint, according to the report. Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, said sheriff's deputies.

All parties were taken to Sunnyside Community Hospital, where they were treated for minor injuries and released.
