de la Cruz has been heavily involved with the Sunnyside reserve police officers, even prior to being elected to the Sunnyside City Council.

The Council will also have its first community youth member on hand to conduct the Pledge of Allegiance at the April 5 meeting.

Council members will also hear a report from the Yakima Valley Conference of Governments concerning the Sunnyside Up! housing rehabilitation project.

Also on April 5, at the request of Councilman Jim Restucci, the Council will hold a discussion on changing the rules allowing a citizen living outside of the city's Urban Growth Area to serve on the Sunnyside Planning Commission. The planning commission is currently one member shy of filling its seven-person board. Restucci said Ken Bierlink is very interested in serving on the planning commission, but lives outside of the city's Urban Growth Area.

Council will also discuss making Martin Luther King Jr. day a paid holiday for city staff.
