Bender, McIntyre cash at golf pro-am

KENNEWICK - Black Rock Creek golfers Jeff Bender and Gene McIntyre cashed at Monday's pro-am series event sponsored by the Central Washington chapter of the PGA.

The Monday, March 22, tourney at Kennewick's Tri-City Country Club drew a field of 166 professional and amateur golfers competing for team and individual awards. The one-day tournament was the second of 26 events that will be held throughout the 2004 season.

Bender, the club pro at Sunnyside's Black Rock Creek Golf Course, tied for fifth in the professional division on Monday. Bender shot a two-over 67. The low professional round, a two-under 63, was turned in by Scott Johnson of Richland's Horn Rapids Golf Course. The lowest scoring Yakima Valley club pro was Paul Cobleigh of Suntides Golf Course, who shot a one-over 66.

McIntyre carded a 10-over 75 to place sixth among amateur division #2 golfers. The Black Rock Creek golfer was three shots off the pace of the amateur division #2 winner-Rip Shepard of Tri-City Country Club.

The low amateur round of the day was claimed by Cliff Cartwright of Horn Rapids, who fired a two-over 67.
