Sunnyside chosen as venue for hour-long documentary

The City of Sunnyside and the Sunnyside Port District will have starring roles in a new hour-long documentary now in production.

The Sunnyside documentary will be aired over KIMA-TV, the local CBS affiliate, April 10, according to Amber Hansen, Sunnyside Port manager.

"It's my understanding the documentary will offer a vision of where Sunnyside is headed," Hansen said.

Hansen said freelance television producer George Finch of Yakima met with the Sunnyside Port Commission and city officials and community leaders during the past month to work on the project.

Hansen said Finch talked with Sunnyside Inc. Executive Director Marshall Doak, community activist Bill Flower, as well as Ed Werkhoven and Ivan White of Sunnyside, Inc. to discuss the community's history, past, present and future.

Finch also met with other community leaders, such as Sunnyside Port Commission President Jeff Matson and former Sunnyside City Manager Dave Fonfara.

The documentary is expected to include clips of Sunnyside businesses and industries, as well as Port properties located throughout the community.

"I think of the documentary as a chance to let others know what a fantastic town we have," Hansen said, noting being on camera made her nervous.

"But it was a chance for us to put out a positive message about our community, its economy and its place in the future," she said.
