Gonzalez, Dahlstrom lead Lady Grizzlies at Hanford

WEST RICHLAND - Isley Gonzalez and teammate Bethany Dahlstrom led the Sunnyside High School girls track and field team this past Friday night at a meet in Hanford.

The Lady Grizzlies along with Hanford, Kiona-Benton and Wahluke competed at the non-scoring meet.

Gonzalez took first place honors in the 400-meter dash with a time of 63 seconds flat.

Dahlstrom took top honors in the javelin with a throw of 98-6.

Sunnyside's 4X400-meter relay team also nabbed top honors in a time of 4:37.7. The Lady Grizzlies' long distance relay team consisted of Ariel Garza, Erica Rodriguez, Cassie Jolliff and Gonzalez.

Sunnyside's 4X100-meter relay squad of Fatima Ruelas, Jolliff, Melissa Caballero and Daniella Rivera took runner-up honors with a clocking of 55 seconds.

Ruelas had a strong showing for the Lady Grizzlies Friday night. She was second in the long jump, clearing 15-3. Ruelas was second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.1 seconds. She also took third in the 100 meters with a time of 13.9 seconds.

Kerri Urrutia grabbed second place honors in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 18.6 seconds. She placed third in the 300-meter hurdles with a clocking of 55.3 seconds.

Halley Rodriguez had a good showing for the Lady Grizzlies Friday night. She was second in the shotput with a toss of 31-10. She also took third in the discus with a throw of 80-3. Dahlstrom finished fifth in the shotput, 25-10-1/4. Dahlstrom placed fourth in the discus with a throw of 74-5-1/2.

In the 1,600-meter run, Ariel Garza had a respectable second place finish for Sunnyside with a time of 6:01. Rodriguez placed fifth with a clocking of 6:10.

Jolliff claimed second place honors in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:40.9. Garza finished third with a time of 2:41.8.

Rivera was third in the long jump, clearing 14-6. She also placed fourth in the 200 with a time of 29.3 seconds. Rivera was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a clocking of 14.3 seconds.

Also in the long jump, Caballero placed fifth, clearing 13-2-1/2. Buffy Hernandez was sixth in the long jump, 13-0.
