Soroptimists now taking flowers

It must be spring because Lower Valley Soroptimists are now taking orders for geraniums and wave petunias for spring planting.

The annuals will be ready for delivery May 1, according to Barb Miller, co-chair of the plant Soroptimist fund-raiser. Cost is $10 per dozen or $1.55 each.

She said all orders must be prepaid. Proceeds from the plant sale will benefit the Soroptimist community service and scholarship projects.

To order the flowers that are grown locally at Sunshine Greenhouses of Sunnyside, call Miller at 837-4093 or Pam Craig at 839-4430.

Local Girls Scouts selling cookies for American troops

A number of Sunnyside Girl Scout troops were out selling cookies this past weekend at Sunnyside Wal-Mart store and plan to return to the shopping center next weekend, according to Carolyn Knee, local scout leader.

She urges Sunnysiders to buy cookies for "…yourself or for our troops overseas."

"We are encouraging our supporters to buy at least one box of cookies for our servicemen and women who are stationed overseas," she said.

The Girl Scouts will be stationed at Wal-Mart from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 2, and from 9:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 3.

The club members will complete their cookie sales on April 9 and 10, Knee said.
