School board approves numerous district hirings

Several different vacancies were filled within the Sunnyside School District last week as board members approved the hiring for numerous positions.

The board approved the hiring of Jennifer Allen as an assistant principal at Pioneer Elementary School.

At Harrison Middle School numerous coaching vacancies were filled. Board members approved the hiring of Salvador Rodriguez as head seventh grade fastpitch coach. Paul Van Pelt was approved as a new assistant baseball coach at the middle school. Directors also approved the hiring of Lisa Monahan as assistant track coach.

The lone athletic department position filled at Sunnyside High School was the hiring of Gary Rohde as the girls golf coach.

Angel Whalen was hired as the facilitator for the Leaders in Action program at Sunnyside High School. Also at the high school, directors approved the hiring of Kathy Williams and Aletha Dahlstrom as after-school special education tutors. The board approved the hiring of Mauricio Zarate as a special education para-educator.

Several Gear-Up positions were also filled at last week's meeting. Whalen was hired as a lead tutor for the after-school program at Chief Kamiakin Elementary School. Isidro Caballero was also hired as a lead tutor for Chief Kamiakin. Lisa Mahoney was hired as a Gear-Up tutor at the high school.

Maria Chavez was hired as a para-educator at Chief Kamiakin. The board approved the hiring of MeLinda Lopez as a playground assistant and tutor at Chief Kamiakin.

Holly Avila was hired as a substitute para-educator and Heidi Jones was brought on as a bus aide.
