County to serve as certified acceptance agency for South First Street project

Tuesday morning, Yakima County commissioners approved an agreement with the City of Sunnyside to serve as the certified acceptance agency for the South First Street reconstruction project in Sunnyside.

City of Sunnyside Engineer Jim Bridges said since federal funds are being used for the project, the funds have to be administered through a certified acceptance agency. Bridges explained that the City of Sunnyside is not recognized as a certified acceptance agency and therefore it turned to the county to serve that position for the street reconstruction project.

Bridges said when it came down to choosing an entity to serve as the certified acceptance agency on the South First Street project the city had two choices, either going through the county or the Washington State Department of Transportation.

The $1.49 million in funding for the South First Street project, which will focus on South First Street from Lincoln Avenue to South Hill Road, is coming from a federal grant.
