Grizzly golfers 8th at Pendleton Invite

PENDLETON, ORE. - Shoot-ing a 315 team score for the second straight day, the Sunnyside High School boys golf team earned an eighth place finish last Friday at the Pendleton Invitational.

A total of 22 teams were competing at the par-72 Pendleton Country Club. Class 4A Richland won the team title, shooting a 13-under par 275. Richland's top three golfers had individual rounds of 66, 67 and 68.

"Several Big Nine schools and a lot of teams from Oregon were there," said Sunnyside Coach Glenn Braman. "There was some good competition."

Also competing at the invite were the Mid-Valley League leading and undefeated Hanford Falcons and the West Valley Rams, who like Sunnyside have just one loss in conference play. Hanford tallied 300 team points and West Valley shot an aggregate 310.

Three Sunnyside golfers shot sub-80 rounds last Friday. Juniors Kevin Lick and Andrew Schutt posted five-over 77's, while senior Chris Trammel was one shot off their pace with a 78. Zack Hathaway rounded out the team scoring for the Grizzlies, posting an 83.

Braman said Lick and Schutt weren't elated with their 77's, as both are capable of scoring in the low 70's.

"Especially when they looked around and saw several rounds in the 60's," he said. "But overall, I think they both realized they were decent scores."

For Trammel, the 78 he claimed Friday came on the heels of a 79 he shot the previous day. He hadn't posted a sub-80 round this season until last Thursday.

"Chris is just going out there and playing relaxed," said Braman. "It works for him."

Ryan Webster also competed at Pendleton for the Grizzlies, but his round of 85 wasn't applied towards the team total.
