Horn Rapids pro picks up points on PGA pro-am leader Bender

WALLA WALLA - Scott Johnson, head pro at Richland's Horn Rapids Golf Course, claimed a three-way share of the title at this past Monday's Central Washington PGA pro-am series event to virtually move into a tie for the series points lead with Sunnyside's Jeff Bender.

Heading into Monday's one-day golf tournament, Johnson trailed Bender by 8 points for the series points lead. Bender, the head pro at Black Rock Creek Golf Course, did not cash Monday.

Johnson tied for top honors at Walla Walla's Veterans Memorial Golf Course with Mike Kasch Jr. and Von Smith. All three club pros shot 4-under 68's. Kasch, the head pro at Eagle View Golf Course, was sitting in third place in the points standings heading into Monday's competition.

The low amateur round shot Monday was a one-under 71, claimed by Nick Manolopoulos of the host Walla Walla course.

The only Lower Yakima Valley golfers to cash at the Walla Walla tourney were Mt. Adams Country Club members Bob Greene and Rob Brown. Greene tied for fourth place honors in amateur division #1 by shooting a four-over 76. Brown, an amateur division #3 golfer, shared runner-up honors with two other golfers in the net division. Brown carded a handicap-aided 71.
