Esiquio Valenzuela Sr., 85, of Sunnyside died Thursday, May 6, 2004, at Hillcrest Manor, Sunnyside.

He was born March 3, 1919 in Kennedy, Texas to Mauro and Constancia (Garza) Valenzuela. He received his education in Texas. On Feb. 5, 1940 he married Esperanza Villarreal in Elsa, Texas.

The Valenzuela family moved to the Satus area in 1950, where he farmed, had a trucking business and was a foreman for Shinn and Son Ranch for many years. In 1970 the family moved to Sunnyside, where he did custom hay baling and swathing, due to his failing health he was forced to retire.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

In his younger years, he enjoyed dancing, fishing and hunting, as the story is told one year he shot two deer with one shot.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Esperanza Valenzuela of Sunnyside; one son, Esiquio (Cisco) Valenzuela and wife, Christine, of Sunnyside; one daughter, Elsa Valenzuela of Sunnyside; one brother, Luis Valenzuela of Granger; and one sister, Lusia Medina of California.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Viewing and visitation will be held Tuesday, May 11, 2004, from 4 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 6 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2004, at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Sunnyside.

Burial will be at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens, Sunnyside, under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, Sunnyside.
