120 scrap radiators stolen from local business

Approximately 120 scrap radiators were reported stolen Tuesday afternoon from American Radiator Inc. in Sunnyside. According to the Sunnyside Police Department, the report of the stolen radiators was received just before 3 p.m. yesterday.

Matt Miller, vice president of American Radiator Inc., said the shop has always stacked its used radiators in back of the building. He said the company would usually haul them off to sell for scrap metal once or twice a year.

According to Miller, with the price of scrap metal going up, it looks like someone stole the old radiators to turn in themselves. He noted that someone would have likely needed a pick-up truck to haul the 120 or so scrap radiators away.

Miller said scrap metal prices have been going up lately, going from 25 to 30 cents a pound up to 45 cents a pound. According to Miller, the local shop is going to begin storing their scrap radiators inside the building.
