Citizen has complaint about Cinco de Mayo festivities

Sunnyside resident Fred Peterson came before the City Council this past Monday night to voice some concerns with this past weekend's Cinco de Mayo festivities.

Peterson voiced some complaints with the mess left behind one of the buildings he takes care of on Seventh Street, just off Edison. Peterson said garbage and graffiti riddled the area and he wished something had been done about it.

"They make ordinances in this town and no one obeys them," said Peterson. "I have had to clean stuff off before, but this is the worst I've ever seen."

Peterson told Council some of the problems he experienced over the weekend included broken beer bottles and full garbage cans.

Rhoda Giffen of the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce told the Council that the area Peterson was referring to was left such a mess because of the power outage that occurred Sunday night. Giffen said the people cleaning the streets and other areas around the Cinco de Mayo festival in downtown didn't want to work in the dark.
