Evening of laughs guaranteed at Zillah Z Center Stage play

ZILLAH - If you're in the mood for an evening of laughs, plan on attending one of the six productions of "The Wind in the Willows." The Z Center Stage production will be presented in the Zillah High School auditorium on Nov. 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 and 20, with the curtain going up at 7 p.m. all six nights.

An adaptation of the classic children's story by Kenneth Grahame, "The Wind in the Willows" is the story of a set of simple animals that live amongst the willows on an English river bank in the early 1900's.

Mr. Mole, to be played by Allegra Gust, decides to "hang spring cleaning" one morning and rise out of his hole to experience the world above. What he finds is a world of beautiful sights, and a few snobby rabbits that try to convince him he has to pay a toll to view the sparkling river. Mr. Mole's exploration of the world appears to be ended, but the arrival and subsequent friendship with the boat loving Ratty (played by Joel Stamm) sparks the continuation of Mr. Mole's above ground experiences.

It's not long before Mr. Mole is introduced to Mr. Toad of Toad Hall (played by Mike Godfrey), and whisked off on a trip on a gypsy caravan that ends abruptly when the group is run off the road by a new fangled motor car. Mr. Toad is promptly mesmerized by this new toy, and Ratty, Mr. Mole and Badger (played by Colin Abel) have to use bodily force to try to get him to swear off driving because he is so bad at it.

The story continues with a trip to jail, an escape, an encounter with a band of weasels and a fight scene that has everything from chases to shades of The Matrix in it. In the end, both Mr. Toad and Mr. Mole realize the great value that friendship and home have for everyone.

Tickets for the play are available by calling the Zillah High School office (829-5565), or by contacting any of the cast members. General admission prices are set at $5 for adults and $3 for children. Reserved section seating is $1 extra. Group rates are available by contacting Lynn Brant thorugh the Internet at: brant_1@zsd.wednet.edu.
