Winter baseball camp Dec. 20-21

Boys and girls kindergarten age through the sixth grade are invited to attend the sixth annual winter baseball camp in Sunnyside, set for Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 20-21.

Sunnyside High School baseball coach Dave Martinez will serve as the camp coordinator. Basic skill development in catching, pitching, hitting, bunting and base running will be stressed.

The indoor camp, to be held during Christmas break, is being sponsored by the Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Department. Early registration is recommended. Camp fees are set at $20, which includes the cost of a camp t-shirt. Registration forms are available at the local parks and rec office. The site of this year's baseball camp will be the Chief Kamiakin Elementary School gym. Camp hours will be from 9 a.m. to noon both days.

Boys, girls hoop camps scheduled

Youngsters who want to hone their basketball skills are being encouraged to sign up now for the Sunnyside boys and girls winter hoop camps, scheduled for Christmas break on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 27-28.

Both camps are being sponsored by the Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Department.

The girls basketball camp will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. both days at the Sunnyside High School gym. It will be directed by Sunnyside High School girls basketball coach Leo Gomez.

The boys camp will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. each of the two days at the Sunnyside High School gym. SHS boys basketball coach Steve Urrutia will serve as camp director.

Both camps are open to youngsters in the first through sixth grades. Camp fees are set at $20, which includes the price of a camp t-shirt. Sign-ups are underway now at the local parks and rec office.

Adults invited

to participate in open gym sessions

Tuesday evenings at Chief Kamiakin Elementary School gym are reserved for those 18 years of age and older who want to scrimmage on the basketball court.

The open gym sessions are being held from 7 to 9 p.m. each Tuesday evening, now through March 29, 2005.

Sponsored by the Sunnyside Parks and Recreation Department, the cost to participate in the open gym sessions is $36 for all available dates, $12.50 per month or $4 per night. Pre-registration is required at the local parks and rec office.
