Stolen car found on fire

Even before it was reported missing, the Yakima County Sheriff's Office found a Sunnyside woman's car on fire, according to Sunnyside Police Officer Melissa Rodriguez.

The 1993 Honda was stolen from a residence in a complex at 1691 McBride Street. The owner of the car returned from an extended trip to Mexico Monday morning to find the vehicle missing, said Rodriguez. The owner's discovery came after the Sheriff's department reported finding a car on fire in the county's jurisdiction. Police attempted to contact the owner, but were unable to notify her of her car's demise until she came to the police department to report it stolen.

Police officials are unsure of exactly when the car disappeared from the residence, but Rodriguez believes it wasn't missing longer than one day.

The case is still under investigation.
