SEATTLE - The Sunnyside High School girls swimming team participated in the ninth annual Mukilteo Invitational held at the King County Aquatic Center this past weekend. Five hundred and fifty swimmers from around the state gathered to test their skills in the meet.
Seven Sunnyside swimmers participated in the day-long event.
According to Sunnyside Coach Scott Southard, Sunnyside's 200 medley relay team of Bailey Morris, Rachelle Durfey, Chelsea Durfey and Renee Saenz placed 57th out of 75 teams with a clocking of 2:28.28. The relay team's seeding time was 2:27.50.
According to Southard, C. Durfey placed 15th in the 50-free with a clocking of 26.37, which was half a second faster than her seeding time of 26.87. A total of 167 swimmers competed in the race.
R. Durfey placed 42nd in the 50-free with a clocking of 28.24. Her seeding time was 29.56.
Shaving six-tenths of a second off her seeding time, Megan Razey of Sunnyside garnered a 119th place finish in the 50-free with a time of 33.61. Her seeding time was 34.22.
Sunnyside's Brittany Bonilla was able to cut her seeding time by nearly two seconds, clocking a time of 35.69 at the invitational. Her seeding time was 37.40.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Sunnyside swimmer Katie Knee placed 31st with a clocking of 1:11.48, which was more than three seconds faster than her seeding time of 1:14.83. She was one of 85 swimmers competing in the event.
In the 100-free, C. Durfey placed 21st with a clocking of 59.65 in the race. She was competing against 162 other swimmers.
Morris won her heat in the 100-free, clocking a time of 1:13.25 for a 114th place finish, said Southard. She shaved seven seconds off her seeding time.
Bonilla also had a fast swim, clocking a time of 1:19.02. Her seeding time was 1:22.18.
Saenz finished the 100-free in a time of 1:27.72. Her seeding time was 1:29.94.
Sunnyside's 200 free relay team of Knee, Razey, R. Durfey and C. Durfey finished 25th with a time of 1:56.49, which was more than a second and a half faster than their seeding time of 1:58.08.
In the 100-yard backstroke, Knee finished 26th with a time of 1:11.19.
Morris clocked a finishing time of 1:25.31 in the same event, which was more than three seconds faster than her seeding time of 1:28.63.
R. Durfey placed 57th in the 100-breaststroke event with a time of 1:25.90. Razey clocked a 79th place finish with a time of 1:31.27. Both swam the race in times that were slightly faster than there seeding times.
