YAKIMA - After a week without a swimming competition, the Lady Grizzlies were defeated by the West Valley swim team 132-34 at Lion's Pool in Yakima this past Saturday.
Sunnyside Coach Scott Southard said last week his team only got in three practices. He didn't have his entire team available this past Saturday, as well.
"They didn't swim bad considering it was kind of a weird week," he added.
In Sunnyside's only first place finish of the meet, Chelsea Durfey swam the 50-free, clocking a time of 26.52.
Sunnyside's Megan Razey placed fifth in the same event with a clocking of 32.67.
In the 200 medley relay, West Valley's Sharp, Burnfeld, Ljutic and Hahn placed first in a time of 2:06.60. Sunnyside swimmers Katie Knee, Rachelle Durfey, C. Durfey and Amanda Myers took second place honors with a clocking of 2:11.07.
In the 200-free, West Valley's Attaway placed first with a clocking of 2:21.48. Myers was second with a clocking of 2:37.
West Valley's individual medley swimmer Burnfeld clocked a first place finish in 2:31.55. R. Durfey placed second with a time of 2:55.12.
In the 100-yard butterfly, Bloomquist placed first with a clocking of 1:09.32. Knee took second place honors with a clocking of 1:11.45.
In the 100-free Rams swimmer Carlson placed first with a clocking of 1:02.36. R. Durfey of Sunnyside placed third with a time of 1:05.80 and Myers was fourth in a time of 1:08.02.
West Valley swimmer Attaway took home first place honors in the 500-free, clocking a time of 6:15.05. C. Durfey clocked a second place finish with a time of 6:20.42.
In the 200-free relay, first place honors went to West Valley swimmers Carlson, LaRiviere, Hahn and Bloomquist. The team clocked a time of 1:52.28. C. Durfey, Razey, Myers and Knee took home second place honors with a clocking of 1:56.54.
In the 100-backstroke, West Valley's Bloomquist placed first with a clocking of 1:08.75. Second place honors went to Knee, who clocked a 1:13.22 finish.
In the final race a Sunnyside swimmer competed in, West Valley's Burnfeld clocked a finishing time of 1:12.23 in the 100-breast. Sunnyside's Razey was fourth with a clocking of 1:30.97.
