A semi-truck broadsided a vehicle, pushing it into the canal along side Highway 241 between 8 and 8:30 p.m. last night (Monday).
According to Washington State Patrol Sgt. Tom Foster, a vehicle driven westbound on Sunnyside's East Edison Avenue was broadsided by a SR-241 southbound semi-truck. The car went off the road and was submerged in the canal.
"It looked a lot more serious than it was," said Foster. "We were worried it was a fatality collision, but were relieved to find out it wasn't."
Foster explained that while state troopers and other emergency personnel were attempting to locate someone in the vehicle, the trooper received a phone call from Sunnyside Community Hospital. The man who was driving the car hitched a ride with someone to the hospital. Foster said he believes the man only suffered minor injuries. The state patrol report is not yet complete, so the man's name was not available.
