Sunnyside swimmers challenge Pullman

PULLMAN - In the last regular meet of the season yesterday the Sunnyside Lady Grizzly swimmers lost to powerhouse Pullman 112-55.

The meet ended the regular swimming season, but the girls will have a week of practice swimming before Districts, which will be held in Ellensburg Friday and Saturday, Oct. 29-30.

Sunnyside had several first place finishes in Thursday's meet, in which they were sorely outnumbered.

Sunnyside swimmer Chelsea Durfey placed first in the 50-free with a time of 25.91, more than three seconds faster than second place finisher, Dutton of Pullman. Sunnyside's Megan Razey earned fifth place honors in the same event with a finishing time of 33.28.

Durfey also placed first in the 100-freestyle, clocking a time of 58.29. Wallace of Pullman placed second with a finishing time of 1:04.17. Rachelle Durfey of Sunnyside was fourth with a time of 1:06.69.

In the 100-butterfly, Katie Knee of Sunnyside brought home first place honors. Knee clocked a time of 1:11.39.

R. Durfey also came in first in the 100-yard breaststroke event, finishing in 1:25.78. Razey also placed in the race, finishing fourth with a clocking of 1:32.26.

The Sunnyside relay team of Knee, R. Durfey, C. Durfey and Amanda Myers placed second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 2:11.75. They were only about three seconds behind the first place relay team from Pullman, which clocked a time of 2:08.32.

Placing second in her individual race was Sunnyside's Myers in the 500-freestyle. She clocked a time of 6:58.79. Fifth place honors went to Sunnyside swimmer Brittney Bonilla, who had a time of 8:28.65.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Knee placed second with a clocking of 1:11.76. Also swimming in the race was Sunnyside's Bailey Morris, who finished in 1:29.22.

Pullman swimmer Drewer placed first in the 200-freestyle with a clocking of 2:29.72. Myers of Sunnyside placed third with a clocking of 2:36.92 and fifth place honors went to Bonilla, who clocked a time of 3:07.88.

Sunnyside's 200-freestyle relay team, made up of C. Durfey, Myers, R. Durfey and Knee, earned third place honors in the race in a time of 1:56.25. Sunnyside B team swimmers of Razey, Saenz, Bonilla and Morris clocked a fifth place finishing time of 2:27.25.

In the 400-yard relay Razey, Saenz, Bonilla and Morris earned third place honors, finishing in a time of 5:36.78.

Morris swam in the 200-individually medley and brought home a fourth place finish, clocking a time of 3:01.95. Saenz placed fifth with a clocking of 4:00.20.
