WENATCHEE - An informal relay invitational in Wenatchee Thursday afternoon opened the season for the Sunnyside Lady Grizzly swimmers. The five girls from Sunnyside who attended the meet placed seventh as a team, according to Coach Scott Southard.
The girls swam three relays at the meet.
The top showing for the team came from the 200-freestyle relay squad. Katie Knee, Megan Razey, Bailey Morris and Amanda Myers finished the relay with a clocking of 2:05.08, placing second.
In the 3x100 individual medley relay, Myers, Renee Saenz and Razey placed sixth, clocking a time of 4:35.91.
The Sunnyside girls also finished sixth in the 3x50 backstroke. Knee, Saenz and Morris clocked a time of 2:03.38.
"They did fine considering we didn't have a full squad there," said Southard.
"I think most importantly the girls got there and raced for the first time in at least a couple of months," he said.
The Sunnyside girls will be swimming in Hanford next Thursday, which Southard believes will serve as a better indication as to how the girls will stack up this season.
"We'll have a full squad there," he added.
