Store owner shoots back at armed men

The owner of T&M Market in the 400 block of Cemetery Road in Sunnyside shot back at two armed gunmen who held him at gun point late last night.

Two men believed to have been wearing bandanna-type masks entered the store late Sunday night and demanded cash, according to Sunnyside Police Department Detective Joe Guillen.

The incident was reported just after 11:30 p.m., according to Guillen.

According to the owner of the business, the two men displayed handguns when robbing the business. Shots were fired at the store owner during the robbery and the clerk returned fire, according to Guillen. It is unknown if the suspects were injured while attempting to rob the store.

Guillen said he is unsure if the gun the store owner fired belongs to him or if he got it away from the robbers, but he did add that bullet fragments were recovered from the scene.

The suspects fled in a vehicle. The description of the vehicle is not known.

This is not the first time this year the market has been a target of armed robbery. The store was also robbed at gun point April 28, 2004.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the Sunnyside Police Department, 837-3120. A $500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects.
