Commissioners approve creation of revolving fund

YAKIMA - Tuesday morning, Yakima County commissioners approved the creation of a revolving fund for the Department of Corrections.

The revolving fund will serve as the bail trust fund, which is used to reimburse incidental costs the county incurrs from contract prisoners. Commissioner Jim Lewis explained that the fund will be used to cover the cost of things like transportion of the prisoners to and from the county's jail facility, as well as to pay contract prisoners for work they do while in custody of the Yakima County Department of Corrections. The county is reimbursed for those costs through the Bureau of Prisons and the State Department of Corrections.

The revolving fund, which will have a balance of $2,000, will allow the county to pay the inmates when they leave the county's possession, then the revolving fund will be reimbursed from the state.
