Helen C. St. John, 95, of Yakima passed away Thursday, Sept. 23, 2004, at Living Care Center in Yakima.

Helen was born April 26, 1909 at home in Wapato. She was one of nine children born to John and Pearl (Bodine) McCormick. She grew up in the Wapato area. After high school, she attended nursing school. Her schooling was interrupted when her mother passed away and she was needed at home to care for the family.

On her birthday in 1939 she married Carroll St. John at St. Aloysius Church in Toppenish. They were married 55 years before he passed away in 1994.

In her younger years, she liked to dance and go to parties. Before her eyesight began to fail, she loved to play pinochle and canasta. She loved to tell about her childhood and all the fun she and her brothers and sisters had when they were growing up. With nine kids, there was always something going on.

She was a long-time member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Until about two years ago she attended Mass daily.

She is survived by one sister, Eleanor Kinchelve of Oklahoma; her children, Pat Nelson, Betty Arnold, and Kevin St. John; her grandchildren,

Bill Nelson, Theresa Nelson, Kelly Arnold, Renee Arnold, Betty Pearson, Justin St. John, and Cecelia Williamson; and great-grandkids, Kelsey Grimm, Jessica Pearson, Jacob Pearson, Ashley Arnold, and Megan Davis.

Also surviving is a special friend Bob Rose.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll; her brothers, Lawrence, John, Frank, Emmett and Gerald; and by her sisters, Lucy and Dorothy.

Helen’s family would like to thank the staff at Living Care Center for the special care they provided for the last two years.

Visitation will be held Monday, Sept. 27, 2004, from 3 to 6:30 p.m. followed by a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m. at Shaw & Sons Funeral Directors.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Sept. 28, 2004, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, with services concluding at Terrace Heights Memorial Park.
