Junior bowling leagues get underway Saturday

If you're 18 years of age or younger and like knocking things down, be at Valley Lanes this coming Saturday morning.

Junior bowling league action gets underway Oct. 2, starting at 11 a.m.

Proprietor Sue Rice said all youngsters 5 to 18 years of age are invited to compete.

"We offer two leagues," Rice said. "Our juniors league is for youths 13 to 18 years of age. We also have a bantams league for kids 12 and under."

Rice said pre-registration is not required to bowl this coming Saturday. "All the kids have to do is show up," she said, explaining that youngsters can form their own teams or sign up individually and be assigned to a team.

Those who show up for league play needn't have their own equipment. Valley Lanes has a wide assortment of bowling balls, at no cost, and shoe rental is free for all youths.

Rice said besides offering competitive play, there are other benefits to youngsters who join either the juniors or bantams leagues.

"Coaches are provided for all the kids, especially the beginners," she said. "By being a member of one of our junior leagues, there are also scholarship opportunities. And, tournament play is offered, too," said Rice.

Throughout the league season there is plenty of other fun offered, as well.

"The kids like to have parties," said Rice. "We have four parties each season. There's lots to eat for everyone, the kind of stuff kids like."

Both, the juniors and bantams leagues start play at 11 a.m. on Saturday mornings. Rice said parents are encouraged to watch their children bowl, or can elect to simply drop their kids off for the morning session.
