YAKIMA - Tuesday morning, Yakima County commissioners appointed Steve Robertson to serve as Director of the Yakima County Department of Corrections.

Robertson, 54, has been working for the past nine months as the deputy director of the Department of Corrections and spent the previous four years working as the undersheriff.

Robertson said he has substantial experience with the criminal justice system, noting that he worked eight years with the Toppenish Police Department, 15 years as Selah Police Chief, and has worked as a part-time justice instructor for the FBI Command College.

Robertson, who was raised in the Yakima area and is a graduate of A.C. Davis High School, said he is hoping to work to improve the health, safety and welfare of Department of Corrections employees, inmates and visitors. He added that he also plans to develop both short and long-term strategic plans for the department.
