Golden Apple nominations sought locally

The Sunnyside School District is now accepting nominations of people to be considered for this year's Golden Apple Awards.

The Golden Apple Awards are presented to district staff annually in May.

This year's Golden Apple Awards are scheduled to be presented at the Thursday, May 26, school board meeting.

The Sunnyside School District is accepting nominations from the community, school support groups, students, former students, parents, administrators and any others interested in recommending someone for an award.

People interested in nominating someone can easily access the nomination forms on the district website at

The Golden Apple Awards recognize members of the educational staff in the district for the job they have done in the education of students. There is also a volunteer of the year award that is presented.

Other nomination categories include teacher of the year, specialist, para-educator, secretary, substitute, support staff and administrator of the year.

Past recipients of teacher of the year honors include Greg Kirk, Ryan Maxwell, Barbara Quigley, Sandy Pascua, Judy Carrick and Raul Castro.
