Sunnyside plans on bringing new principal on board soon

At their March meeting, Sunnyside School Board members heard about plans to hire a new administrator.

The board heard from Sunnyside School District Superintendent Dr. Rick Cole on how the district wants to have in place as soon as possible a half-time assistant principal at Harrison Middle School, who will also be serving in the role as planner for the new Sierra Vista Middle School, which is scheduled to open at the start of the 2006 school year.

"This person will become principal of Sierra Vista," said Cole.

Cole said the board will soon be receiving a pamphlet with more information for the position at a future meeting.

Cole said this new administrator will be working to develop a relationship with staff and students at the middle school and Chief Kamiakin Elementary School while Sierra Vista is in the process of being built. The new administrator will also be assisting in the selection of staff for the new middle school and will be handling other issues that come up.

Cole told the board it is not unusual for a district to have a planning principal on staff when a new school is being built. Cole said it will help smooth the transition for district staff and students when the new school does open.
