EPHRATA - Behind the efforts of sophomore Chante Bottineau, the Grandview High School girls golf team nabbed a fourth place finish yesterday at an eight-school CWAC league meet at Lakeview Country Club.
Bottineau fired her best score of the young 2005 season, carding a 109 on the par-71 Ephrata course. She posted a front nine 56, cutting her score to a 53 after the turn.
"It was windy yesterday, but Chante played well," said Grandview Coach Scott Parrish.
The strength of her game Monday?
"She putted pretty well," Parrish answered.
"She's only a sophomore," he continued. "If she continues to work at her game, which she does because she takes it seriously, she could develop into a pretty good golfer."
Grandview tallied a team score of 482 to earn its fourth place finish from the eight-school field. The Othello girls team claimed top honors with a score of 440. The Huskies were led by Kimberly Schutt, who earned medalist honors with a 10-over 81.
Leavenworth's Cascade High School squad was four strokes back of Othello (444) to take runner-up honors. Quincy finished 10 strokes better than Grandview to grab the third place spot.
Second in for the Lady Greyhounds yesterday was Allyson Rohde. She scored a 63 on the front side but sliced her score to a 59 on the back nine for a 122 total. Teammate Kayla Carpenter finished two shots back of Rohde, with a 124 (59-65). Rounding out the team scoring for Grandview was Katie Veloz with a 127 (61-66).
The Grandview girls will host Ephrata at Black Rock Creek Golf Course next Tuesday, April 19.
