Thief plows stolen car into manufactured home

Early this morning (Tuesday) while children were still waiting for the bus to take them to school, a late model Pontiac Sunfire, which was stolen last night from a home in the 700 block of Skyline Drive, was crashed into a manufactured home on Parkland Drive.

The vehicle was stolen Monday night by a suspect police are still seeking. The man first prowled the car, stealing the owner's purse and keys and returned about half an hour later to take the car, according to Sunnyside Police Officer Oliver Hernandez.

The vehicle was seen in the Parkland Homes development this morning. As the suspect attempted to flee he pulled behind one of the mobile homes and crashed the vehicle into it. He fled the scene. The car sustained front end damage and the mobile home skirting and some of the siding was dented, according to Sgt. Preston Kelley.

The suspect in the theft of the Pontiac is also wanted for a car theft in Parkland Homes that occurred last week, said Hernandez. The man is believed to have taken a maroon Chevrolet Beretta. Police chased the suspect, but he fled the car and they were unable to make an arrest.
