A Toppenish man was arrested Monday after he attempted to cash a forged check.
A clerk at Highway Fruit in Sunnyside recognized the $500 check as a forgery and followed the suspect as he left the market. According to Sunnyside police officials, the clerk alerted police by cell phone, passing on vehicle information as well as direction of travel, as she followed him in her car.
Police stopped the suspect. During the investigation officers found additional fraudulent checks, as well as numerous false identifications.
The suspect is being charged with forgery and unlawful possession or production of an instrument.
