OTHELLO - League play didn't get off to a good start for the Grandview Lady Greyhounds, who took on Othello Tuesday afternoon. The Grandview team found themselves unable to keep up in a doubleheader that ended with two Othello victories.
The Lady 'Hounds fell to the Huskies 12-1 in the first game of the afternoon, with Othello coming back to put Grandview away 23-0 in the second game of the doubleheader.
"We were humbled," said Grandview Coach Doug Hansen.
He added that Othello is one of the best hitting teams he has seen recently. The Huskies are also a well-rounded team. Hansen noted Othello didn't seem to have any weaknesses on defense, and had tremendous pitching.
Pitching for Grandview yesterday afternoon was senior Mari Cornejo, who not only worked hard on the pitching rubber, but also helped the team at the plate. During the first game of the afternoon, Cornejo had a triple and managed to score on a bunt tapped by senior Aiko Oki. Also landing hits in the first game of the afternoon were senior Sarah Trevino and sophomore Rocky Rodriguez.
Making the only hit for Grandview in the second game was Trevino.
"I would be surprised if they aren't undefeated in league," Hansen said of the Huskies.
Grandview (0-2, 4-5) will take to the field again this Saturday in a doubleheader at home against Connell. This will be Grandview's second league outing of the season.
