Greyhounds fall short against Red Devils

MOXEE - It was another well played outing for the Grandview High School boys soccer team that left the Greyhounds coming up just a bit short.

Grandview fell 2-1 this past Tuesday at East Valley.

"It was a very evenly played game," said Grandview Coach Anne Holden.

Holden said the Red Devils were very content in playing the type of game Grandview wanted.

The Red Devils got on the board first, scoring in the 18th minute. Grandview responded at the 38th minute when Rigo Guerrero scored off an assist from Oscar Barrigan.

East Valley picked up the winning goal at the 78th minute when a Red Devil player was able to get past a Greyhound defender and slide a ball past the post.

The game was played on a rather even keel. Both East Valley and Grandview had six direct shots on goal with the Greyhound keeper recording four saves and East Valley's goalie racking up five.

"Either team could have won the game," said Holden.

Holden said a lot of play took place in the middle of the field with both teams playing a possession type ball game with both teams looking for an open spot on the field. Holden said her team was able to score a goal when they started moving the ball on the outside, playing from the corners.

"I am not disappointed with the way we are playing," said Holden. "We are doing all the things right. We just need to have some luck."

The Greyhounds (3-4, 5-7) will host Toppenish on Saturday. The varsity game will start at 11 a.m. with the JV to follow at 1 p.m.
