Hounds nearly swept by Vikings

SELAH - The Selah Vikings tennis teams posted domination victories over Grandview yesterday.

The Selah boys defeated Greyhounds 4-1 and the girls recorded a 3-2 victory.

Grandview's No. 1 singles player Kevin Floyd brought home the solo win for the boys, defeating Cody Alliston in an impressive 6-0, 6-0 match.

No. 2 singles player for Grandview Marco Diaz held tight to Joe Kohler in the first set, losing 6-4, but wasn't able to come back, dropping the second set 6-2.

In doubles play, Selah's No. 1 team of Jason Sutton and Chad Womak handily defeated Grandview's Zach Poteet and Paulino Fajardo 6-0, 6-1.

Grandview's Chase Lindsley and Raymond Cantu held their own against Josh Burwell and Tim Smith, but ultimately lost 6-3, 6-1.

Also losing was Grandview's No. 3 doubles team of Nicholas Saldana and Genaro Urbina, who were defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Josh Surratt and Thomas Gomez.

Lady Hound No. 2 singles player Cristina Meza had one of the two wins for her team. She defeated Selah's Catlin Headley 6-3, 6-2.

Also winning for Grandview was No. 2 doubles players Bianca Rodriguez and Kayla Leyendecker, who came back from a 2-6 loss in the first set to win 6-1, 6-3. They defeated Selah's Shannon Thorp and Mara Lopez.

No. 1 singles player Miranda Shreeve lost to Selah's Jennylyn Aganda 6-3, 6-1.

Grandview's No. 1 doubles team also handed a win over to the Vikings. New partners, Grandview's Danika Martinez and Christine Penwell, lost 6-1, 6-1 to Selah's Aly Cote and Marie Martins.

In one of the more exciting matches of the day, Grandview's Josie Cruz and Olivia Gomez held their own against Carissa Humrickhouse and Amanda Gutierrez in No. 3 doubles play.

Cruz and Gomez won the first set 6-3 but narrowly lost the second 7-6. The Lady Vikings won a tie-breaker 7-1 and then came back to win the final set 6-0.
