YAKIMA - Andrew Michels carded the low round on the day, an 8-over 80 to win medalist honors, in leading the Grandview High School boys golf team to a second place tie at a five-school CWAC match at the Yakima Country Club Thursday.
Greyhound teammate Sean Tudor, along with Othello's Jason Brault, was a stroke back with an 81.
Despite the one-two individual punch provided by Michels and Tudor, Grandview finished 14 strokes behind Othello for top team honors. The Huskies, with a team total of 337 strokes, got an 81 from Brault, an 84 from Bart Patitucci and a trio of 86's from Brandon Hoksberger, Travis Mohs and Brandon Robbins.
The 'Hounds shot a team total of 351. Following Michels' 80 and Tudor's 81, Grandview received a 97 from David Trevino and a 99 from T.J. Bolt.
The host East Valley Red Devils tied Grandview for second place honors with a team tally of 351. East Valley's Ryan Tjarnberg fired an 82 to post the low round for the Red Devils. Teammates Tyler Chapman, Matt Dillinger and Andrew Scott added rounds of 85, 90 and 94, respectively.
Toppenish, behind sophomore Adam Story's 82 and an 89 from Zach Mauch, settled for fourth place honors with a team score of 363. Naches Valley brought up the rear in the five-school CWAC league match with an aggregate score of 410. The Rangers' Drew Anderson had the low score for his team, a 93.
The Grandview boys golf team was scheduled to compete today (Friday) at the Pendleton Invitational. The Greyhound linksters have another CWAC league match scheduled for next Monday in Othello.
