The Sunnyside Sunshine Days Committee is progressing with its plan to host a three-day party for the community in September, said Pat Kezele, committee chairman.
"We've formed committees for the celebration and are now looking for people to step up and help flesh out the schedule of events," she said.
This is a party for the entire community but we need volunteers to help pull it off, she added.
The committee, which is struggling to revitalize the September celebration, has put together an ambitious schedule of activities, which includes everything from classic and contemporary car shows, an art show, as well as a street fair and a number of sporting events. But, said Kezele, the group is in need of "warm bodies" to help with the organization of the events.
The Sunshine Days committee is planning the community celebration for Sept. 16, 17 and 18. The event will also include the Miss Sunnyside Pageant and a Saturday parade. The celebration, which last year was nearly canceled due to lack of community participation, is undergoing a rebirth, Kezele said.
"But in order for it to fly, we need the support of the community," she said.
"We want the festival to be a giant party for the entire community, " she said.
The current committee of 11 people is working to organize such events as a Volkswalk, a biathlon, a family movie night in the park, in addition to the traditional street fair, a carnival, a Mr. Sunnyside Pageant and a Sunday picnic.
Kezele invites interested people to attend the May 10 meeting to be held at the Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce office at 5:30 p.m.
