S’side residents needed for school ethics committee
The Sunnyside School District is currently seeking community
members for its ethics committee.
The committee meets once a month to discuss specific topics
involving school district business. The ethics committee acts as a resource for
the local school board. Its function is to study and develop ethical standards,
as well as to review current policies and procedures.
Those community members interested in serving on the
committee are asked to submit a letter of interest to Superintendent Dr. Rick
Cole's office by Aug. 12. Additional information about the committee openings

G’view fireworks task force to meet
GRANDVIEW - The newly formed Grandview fireworks task force
is scheduled to hold its first meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 16.
The task force is charged with formulating a recommendation
on whether or not fireworks should be banned in the community of Grandview.
The Aug. 16 meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the Grandview
City Hall Council chambers.
Yakima fair offers two new contests for cooks, bakers
YAKIMA - Exhibitors who are entering items in the baked food
categories at this year's Central Washington State Fair will have a chance to
win cash prizes in two new contests. Prizes will be awarded for the best coffee
cake and for the best chocolate dessert.
In the "Bake Your Best" coffee cake contest,
sponsored by Saco Foods, the winner will receive $150 for the best coffee cake.
Second and third place prizes of $100 and $75 will also be awarded.
Hershey's is sponsoring the Hershey's Cocoa Classic, and
will award $25 for the best chocolate dessert entered in this year's fair.
