Parents to be offered back-to-school workshop

Parents of children in the Sunnyside School District will have the opportunity to learn something of their own prior to sending their children back to school this fall.

A workshop for parents entitled Preparing Your Child for School will be held in the Denny Blaine Building on Thursday, Aug. 11, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.

Parents will be exposed to a variety of information regarding their children and what is needed for the coming school year.

Summer school

serves 845 kids

Gary Vegar, executive director of instruction and learning for the Sunnyside School District, provided school directors with a review of summer school at last week's board meeting.

Summer school exceeded expectations, said Vegar.

The district served in the neighborhood of 845 students in grades K-12 for summer school. There were also numerous special education students attending summer school this year.

Summer school featured emphasis on reading, math and writing.
